"We Were on a Break!" – Wenn die Übersetzung nicht pausiert. Eine vergleichende Analyse der Übersetzungen der Fernsehserie "Friends" im Deutschen und Italienischen

Audiovisual translation represents a constantly evolving field, essential for the consumption of multilingual content. This thesis work first analyzes the various types of audiovisual translation, examining their characteristics and historical development, before focusing on the analysis of subtitling and dubbing in the American television series "Friends." The first chapter provides an overview of audiovisual translation, outlining its origins and current trends, while the second introduces the case study, examining the distinctive language of the series "Friends" and the recurring themes that have made it a global cultural phenomenon. Finally, the third chapter presents a linguistic and translation analysis of the existing translations in Italian and German, paying particular attention to the challenges and solutions in adapting the dialogues from English to Italian and German. The goal is to highlight how translation techniques can ensure an effective rendering of the original audiovisual text, enhancing the linguistic and cultural specificities of the various target contexts.

La traduzione audiovisiva rappresenta un campo in continua evoluzione, fondamentale per la fruizione di contenuti multilingue. Questo lavoro di tesi analizza in primo luogo le diverse tipologie di traduzione audiovisiva, esaminando le loro caratteristiche e il loro sviluppo storico, per poi dedicarsi all'analisi della sottotitolazione e del doppiaggio della serie televisiva americana "Friends". Il primo capitolo fornisce una panoramica sulla traduzione audiovisiva, delineando le sue origini e i trend attuali, mentre il secondo introduce il caso di studio, esaminando il linguaggio distintivo della serie "Friends" e i temi ricorrenti che l'hanno resa un fenomeno culturale globale. Nel terzo capitolo, infine, viene presentata un’analisi linguistica e traduttologica delle traduzioni esistenti in italiano e tedesco, con un’attenzione particolare alle sfide e alle soluzioni nell’adattamento dei dialoghi dall’inglese all’italiano e al tedesco. L’obiettivo è evidenziare come le tecniche di traduzione possano garantire una resa efficace del testo audiovisivo di partenza, valorizzando le specificità linguistiche e culturali dei diversi contesti di arrivo.
