My thesis will focus on the themes of ukiyo-e printing in Japan starting from a historical analysis of the method, the themes and its diffusion between East and West. I will then move on to an in-depth analysis of the themes that best represent the presence of the notion and practice of kire, proceeding to explain this term and its articulation in some significant art forms in Japan. Once some examples relating to the action of kire in Japanese art have been shown, we will move on to the second chapter in which we will proceed with the comparison of the print production method with the reproduction that characterizes photography. At this point we will propose an analysis focused on the diffusion and development of photography in the context of the artistic panorama of 20th century Japan until we get to talking about the story of Hiroshi Hamaya in the third chapter, a Japanese photographer who has the distinction of having been the first oriental photographer to become a member of the Magnum Photos photographic agency, founded by the French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson, pioneer of photojournalism. This reconstruction will allow us to highlight the parallelism between the French photographer's philosophy of "seizing the moment" which, in some way, can be described as European kire, and the philosophy of kire as it is understood in the land of the Rising Sun.

Abstract
This reconstruction will allow us to highlight the parallelism between the French photographer's philosophy of "seizing the moment" which, in some way, can be described as European kire, and the philosophy of kire as it is understood in the land of the Rising Sun.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
