The thesis analyzes the rules of composition of the Belvedere mosaic in the Villa dei Papiri in Herculaneum. It illustrates the cultural context of the Villa. It compares the possible geometric-mathematical reading of the mosaic with the studies of Greek and Alexandrian geometers.
