The thesis explores the representations of dance and collective choreutic forms in Old French narrative, with particular attention to the magical carole and other group dances. Through a philological and symbolic analysis of the texts, the different aspects and the social and cultural functions of dance are examined, ranging from ritual and magical practices to the celebration of communal harmony. The research focuses on emblematic works of medieval French literature, where dance is used as a narrative and metaphorical element, expressing social cohesion, symbolic order, and the relationship with the sacred. The thesis aims to highlight how caroles and other choreutic forms not only reflect the social structure of the time but also convey courtly and normative values. Finally, the role of dance as a tool for non-verbal communication and its ability to mediate between the real and the fantastical world within medieval texts is examined.
