Entrepreneurial paternalism has always sparked criticism and debate. During the second half of the 19th century and the following century, many industrialists implemented forms of paternalism towards their workers. This thesis aims to examine entrepreneurial paternalism in the case of two important entrepreneurial families from the Alto Vicentino region, the Rossi family of Schio and the Marzotto family of Valdagno. The paper will focus on the business histories in relation to the local context and on the paternalistic initiatives undertaken by each company. Specifically, the reasons behind these paternalistic choices will be analyzed, as well as certain phases of conflict between workers and entrepreneurs between the late 19th century and the early years of the 20th century. The last chapter will be dedicated to the "Città Sociale" of Valdagno, a large workers' district built by Gaetano Marzotto Jr. at the end of the 1920s, which became a symbol of the town of Valdagno and of the mature and all-encompassing paternalism achieved by the Marzotto factory. The thesis does not aim to provide an exhaustive and complete examination of the topic, but its objective is to lay the groundwork, at least in terms of bibliography, for future research on the subject. Additionally, the limited availability of primary sources has made a critical analysis of the events quite difficult.

Abstract
Additionally, the limited availability of primary sources has made a critical analysis of the events quite difficult.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
