Human beings do not act in an isolated system, but in a social context where the choices and actions of each individual influence others. The literature has highlighted how other people's behavior and social interactions can modulate cognitive abilities and the perception of the surrounding environment. In this research, we examined the influence of others' Social Mindfulness on individuals' attentional focus. We designed an experiment in which participants interact with people characterized by high or low levels of Social Mindfulness. Subsequently, participants perform a Global Local Task to evaluate whether and how the restriction of choice, imposed by the person they interact with, influences their attentional focus. Our study focuses on the consequences that interacting with a mindful person or not can have on individuals, analyzing the similarities and differences between Social Mindfulness and constructs that correlate with it, such as prosocial behavior and empathy. We will particularly explore the few studies that have focused on the effects of "receiving" Social Mindfulness from others, an aspect still little explored in the existing literature, aiming at better understanding how Social Mindfulness can modulate attention and behavior. This thesis is composed of five chapters and is structured as follows. The first chapter deals with sociality and the absence of sociality, including the consequences of social exclusion and isolation, illustrating the effects of relationships with others. The second chapter introduces the construct of Social Mindfulness, described as a prosocial ability, and describes the SoMi experimental paradigm used to measure this capacity. The third chapter details the method used to conduct the research and the results obtained from data analysis; it also explains the Global Local Task and its use in evaluating attentional focus. In the fourth chapter, the results will be discussed, and the limitations of this research will be presented, concluding with final observations
