This thesis is an exploratory qualitative research delving into the socioeconomic challenges of young adults in Athens, Greece. The socioeconomic environment of Greece is described in relation to structural changes that took place since the financial crisis. The aim of the study was to document how young adults view and experience their socioeconomic environment and the challenges this entails for them. At the same time, the ways they navigate these challenges and their aspirations for their future were investigated. Participants (N=22), aged from 22 to 35 years (M=29, SD=2,75), were interviewed about their everyday lives and five main themes were co-constructed: 1. Disillusionment with socioeconomic conditions and State Institutions, 2. Employment conditions and labour market related challenges, 3. Family dependency, 4. Surviving amidst challenges: personal and interpersonal solutions, 5. Visions of the future. The themes were discussed taking into account the socioeconomic changes of the past years and the implementation of neoliberal policies during the crisis. Considerations regarding social changes in general, and social changes towards more justice were made and the role of psychologists was highlighted.
