Language is among the main means through which human thought is structured. What happens when individuals find themselves in a situation that is impossible to translate into words, such as being in pain? Starting from the hypothesis that pain causes the destruction of languages, and that consequently human beings are forced to experiment with new ways of expression, this study aims to investigate the different forms of language produced by people in pain to be able to communicate their inner state on the outside. Analyzing the intersection between the individual, social and historical dimensions that influence the production of these new forms of expression, the stories narrated by individuals who identify themselves as atheists or agnostics will be compared to the ones given by individuals who adhere to the Christian Catholic religion.

Abstract
Language is among the main means through which human thought is structured. What happens when individuals find themselves in a situation that is impossible to translate into words, such as being in pain? Starting from the hypothesis that pain causes the destruction of languages, and that consequently human beings are forced to experiment with new ways of expression, this study aims to investigate the different forms of language produced by people in pain to be able to communicate their inner state on the outside. Analyzing the intersection between the individual, social and historical dimensions that influence the production of these new forms of expression, the stories narrated by individuals who identify themselves as atheists or agnostics will be compared to the ones given by individuals who adhere to the Christian Catholic religion.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
