The paper highlights the importance and necessity for children to have experiences in contact with nature through the pedagogical approach of Outdoor Education. After a presentation of the characteristics, goals and objectives of this practice, a brief historical overview is offered, starting with the emergence of the first outdoor schools. Next, attention is drawn to the benefits and advantages of early childhood outdoor education, highlighting how through it children can both learn about and learn to assess risk and be educated about sustainability and respect for the world around them. Reference is also made to contemporary Italian contexts, analyzing today's condition of childhood and the relationship between children and nature. Finally, there is a focus on parents and educators/teachers as reference and guiding figures in Outdoor Education pathways.
Nell’elaborato vengono messe in luce l’importanza e la necessità per i bambini di vivere esperienze a contatto con la natura attraverso l’approccio pedagogico dell’Outdoor Education. Dopo una presentazione delle caratteristiche, degli obiettivi e delle finalità di tale pratica, si propone una breve panoramica storica, a partire dalla nascita delle prime scuole all’aperto. Successivamente si pone l’attenzione sui benefici e sui vantaggi dell’educazione all’aperto nella prima infanzia, mettendo in risalto come attraverso di essa i bambini possano sia conoscere e imparare a valutare il rischio sia essere educati alla sostenibilità e al rispetto del mondo che li circonda. Si fa riferimento, inoltre, ai contesti italiani contemporanei, analizzando la condizione odierna dell’infanzia e il rapporto che intercorre tra bambini e natura. Infine, ci si sofferma sui genitori e sugli/sulle educatori/educatrici quali figure di riferimento e di guida nei percorsi di Outdoor Education.
