INTRODUCTION: In the contemporary era, technological innovations are revolutionizing the healthcare sector, offering new opportunities for disease prevention and the enhancement of public health. It is therefore necessary to investigate and describe the opinions and competencies of healthcare professionals and students in the medical field regarding the impact of digital technological innovations on prevention and the healthcare system. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A web-assisted survey was administered to professionals and university students in the medical-healthcare field, distributed via social networks and email. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: A total of 145 responses were collected. Data analysis reveals that both healthcare professionals and students exhibit a high level of interest (88% and 43%, respectively) and sufficient competence (57% and 54%) in digital technologies applied to healthcare. Sixty-nine percent of workers are inclined to use new technologies to improve healthcare services, although 45% believe that the training provided and the technologies made available by companies are still insufficient in comparison to the innovations introduced by new systems. Additionally, 55% of students believe that the impact of technological innovations in healthcare will be critical in their future roles in community and individual patient care. Finally, the sample demonstrates a significant positive response toward the use and improvement of the Electronic Health Record, while expressing some uncertainties regarding applications of telemedicine and artificial intelligence. CONCLUSIONS: In the future, public healthcare must provide workers and the population with digital tools for easy and accessible health data consultation, facilitating comprehensive and integrated care, especially in prevention and health promotion efforts. Given the inclination towards their use, healthcare professionals and students require more targeted training on existing systems such as the Electronic Health Record, telemedicine, and artificial intelligence. Moreover, to prevent inequities and inequalities in population access to healthcare services, it would be necessary to design facilitation tools or maintain a hybrid system to support individuals with less digital proficiency.
