This paper deals with those aspects that connect and, on the contrary, distinguish different works that see some picari as their protagonists: the First and the Second part of the anonymous "Lazarillo de Tormes", Carlo Collodi’s "The Adventures of Pinocchio" and Gianni Rodari’s "Piccoli Vagabondi". From the typical picaresque features to more specific aspects related to hunger, parenthood and death, together with those of the metamorphosis, from an Italian author’s tribute towards the other one up to the educational theme, this is an analysis that ends up looking at the way in which literary childhood has been developing and enhance its importance as a stage of life.
