The current study is a cross national and gender based comparative study aimed at establishing the prevalence of stress and anxiety among athletes. An exploratory mixed methodology approach of questionnaires that incorporate scores from psychological scales as well as interview participants’ self-stories will be used to succeed in comprehending such psychological issues among athletes. These results indicate why such observations to point out towards cultural differences—while Indian athletes demonstrate high anxiety along with traditional collectivistic attitude, they do not have much freedom in receiving mental health services; however, their western counterparts, who feel the pressures related to individualistic performances, have accessible orthodox psychological support. There were differences with respect to gender too: Females are more anxious than males—an attached and pressured female performer is stressed, a broken male performer suffers more but withdraws for fear of being a pariah.
