This thesis aims to analyse the behaviour of the Ackermann steering principle in vehicles with front steering, with the aim of optimizing performance and reducing tire wear. More specifically, this research explains theoretical principles governing the kinematics of the steering system and the relationship between the steering angle of the front wheels and the turning radius. Moreover, geometric models were used to derive mathematical relationships that can accurately predict the Ackermann steering according to the vehicle specifications and the driving conditions. Finally, the behaviour of the Ackermann angle has been analysed considering all the external forces that act on the steering system, in particular on the tires, in order to understand how to preliminarily design the steering system in vehicles.

Abstract
This thesis aims to analyse the behaviour of the Ackermann steering principle in vehicles with front steering, with the aim of optimizing performance and reducing tire wear. More specifically, this research explains theoretical principles governing the kinematics of the steering system and the relationship between the steering angle of the front wheels and the turning radius. Moreover, geometric models were used to derive mathematical relationships that can accurately predict the Ackermann steering according to the vehicle specifications and the driving conditions. Finally, the behaviour of the Ackermann angle has been analysed considering all the external forces that act on the steering system, in particular on the tires, in order to understand how to preliminarily design the steering system in vehicles.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
