The present thesis aims to analyse some thematic aspects in Poeta en Nueva York (1940) by Federico García Lorca. Particularly, after introducing in the first chapter the historical and social context in which Poeta en Nueva York takes place and the general framework of the life and work of the author, in the following chapters, the object becomes to go deeper into the main themes of the work, or at least those that stand out most for me, such as the dehumanization of human beings in a context of a blind progress, the loss of the natural, the marginalization of the most vulnerable classes, as well as death, both spiritual and physical. Through this work we want to analyze some of the poems for me more significant from these points of view and give a personal interpretation to what is read. In addition, special emphasis will be placed throughout the three chapters on the symbols and surrealist language that have been used. An additional and personal purpose would be to promote a reflection on the modernity of today and the fundamental links that it has with the work of Lorca.
