Between Diplomacy and Despair: Human Trafficking of North Koreans in the context of China-North Korea Relations

This thesis investigates the human trafficking of North Koreans, with a deeper focus on women, and their subsequent exploitation in China. Trafficked North Koreans, particularly women, often face forced marriages or sexual exploitation, exacerbated by local socio-economic pressures and inadequate legal protections. The research will explore how the historical and political dynamics of the Sino-North Korean relationship have facilitated this trafficking, focusing on the socio-political conditions in North Korea that drive individuals to flee and the trafficking networks that exploit them.

Questa tesi analizza il traffico di esseri umani dalla Corea del Nord, con un focus particolare sulle donne e il loro sfruttamento in Cina. I nordcoreani trafficati, in particolare le donne, spesso si trovano di fronte a matrimoni forzati o sfruttamento sessuale, aggravati dalle pressioni socio-economiche locali e dalla mancanza di adeguate protezioni legali. La ricerca esplorerà come le dinamiche storiche e politiche delle relazioni sino-nordcoreane abbiano facilitato questo traffico, mettendo in luce le condizioni socio-politiche in Corea del Nord che spingono gli individui a fuggire e le reti di traffico che li sfruttano.
