This thesis aims to analyse the Falkland/Malvinas War, fought in 1982 between the United Kingdom and Argentina. The research begins with an overview of the history of the archipelago, focusing on the territorial disputes that happened in the islands starting from the 16th century. The central part of this study wants to explore the economic, international, and internal political dynamics that led to the conflict, examining the diplomatic strategies of the involved actors and the central role of the United States as mediators between the two Nations. Another key aspect of this thesis is the analysis of the war's international repercussions: the re-election of Margaret Thatcher as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and the consequent strengthening of the nation in opposition to the fall of the totalitarian regime in Argentina and its consequent democratization, up to the effects of the conflict on international alliances, on the resolutions adopted by the UN, and the situation in Latin America. The Falklands War also offers a clear view of the political, economic, and international context following the Cold War. The aim of this thesis is to understand how the Falkland/Malvinas conflict had significant consequences not only for the two powers involved but also within the complicated sphere of international relations, contributing to the redefinition of global political balances.
