This thesis explores the concept of empathy from a psychological perspective, defining it as the ability to see the world through others’ eyes, understand their feelings without judgment, and maintain a clear distinction between one’s own emotions and those of others (Morelli & Poli, 2020). Initially regarded as a unidimensional construct, either affective or cognitive, empathy has evolved into a multidimensional concept. This approach integrates both emotional and cognitive dimensions, allowing for a more comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon. An example of this evolution is the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI), a psychometric tool that measures empathy across four dimensions: affective, cognitive, and visuospatial perspective-taking. These dimensions provide a basis for scientific comparisons and enable the analysis of empathy in relation to various psychological factors. The thesis further examines individual differences in empathy, focusing on its relationship with prosocial behaviors, personality traits, and visuospatial perspective-taking ability. This integrated approach offers a comprehensive framework for understanding empathy and its connections with other aspects of human psychology, providing insights for practical interventions and future research.

Abstract
This integrated approach offers a comprehensive framework for understanding empathy and its connections with other aspects of human psychology, providing insights for practical interventions and future research.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
