This study aims to explore the effects of interpersonal violence (IPV) on the health of victims, with particular focus on polyvictimization and the bodily impact of trauma, based on the theory of embodiment. The research was conducted on a sample of 202 participants, recruited through an online questionnaire. Validated instruments were used to assess psychological symptoms (SCL-58), perceived health-related quality of life (SF-12), interoceptive awareness (MAIA), post-traumatic symptoms (TSI), and self-compassion (SCS). Data were analyzed using non-parametric tests (Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests) and Spearman correlations. The analysis revealed multiple consequences of violence on the victims’ physical, mental, and sexual health. In particular, individuals who experienced polyvictimization reported significantly higher levels of impairment. Moreover, noteworthy findings emerged regarding interoceptive awareness and the bodily consequences of violence, supporting the embodiment hypothesis. Intimate partner violence is a complex phenomenon with multifaceted and interconnected effects. The results highlight the need for an integrated approach to the assessment and treatment of IPV victims, which takes into account both the psychological and bodily effects of trauma from a multidimensional perspective.
