The analysis proposed in this thesis focuses on political connections and their impact on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Italy, with a particular focus on the Veneto region. It highlights the crucial role of SMEs in the Italian economy, addressing the challenges that these companies face in a globalised context. The thesis explores the concept of "political connections", distinguishing between legal and illegal relationships, and analyses how such connections can influence SMEs' economic success, bringing both benefits and risks of market distortion. The historical and current context of SMEs, the vulnerabilities of the administrative apparatus and the entrepreneurial policies adopted in Veneto, which aim to promote an environment of innovation and collaboration, are also discussed. In this context, the concept of enterprise policy emerges as fundamental to creating a favourable environment for SMEs through laws, regulations and incentives that support economic development. Finally, the importance of an ethical and transparent entrepreneurial culture is stressed, which is necessary to ensure a sustainable future for SMEs and the entire Italian economic system.
