L’assedio di Vicenza Giugno 1848, L’esperienza dei volontari

This thesis examines the siege of Vicenza in June 1848 during the First War of Independence, with particular focus on the role and experience of the Italian volunteers who came to defend the city against the Austrian troops led by Field Marshal Radetzky. Through the analysis of contemporary sources and first-hand accounts, the study reconstructs the battle, the ideal motivations of the volunteers, and the political and military consequences of the defeat. The paper reflects on the symbolic value of the battle within the broader context of the Italian Risorgimento and its meaning for the national cause.

La tesi analizza l'assedio di Vicenza del giugno 1848 durante la Prima guerra d'indipendenza, focalizzandosi in particolare sul ruolo e sull’esperienza dei volontari provenienti dagli Stati italiani, accorsi per difendere la città dalle truppe austriache del maresciallo Radetzky. Attraverso l’analisi di fonti coeve e testimonianze dirette, il lavoro ricostruisce lo scontro armato, le motivazioni ideali dei combattenti e le conseguenze politiche e militari della disfatta. L’elaborato riflette sull’importanza simbolica della battaglia nel contesto del Risorgimento italiano e sul suo significato per la causa nazionale.
