Introduction. Violence against women is a crucial issue. In Europe, it is estimated that approximately 30 per cent of women between the ages of 18 and 74 experienced physical violence, threats and/or sexual violence in their lifetime. Unreported violence is a constant in studies by the United Nations, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights and Italian National Institute of Statistics. The present study aims to investigate the prevalence of violence against women among female University students, a population particularly at risk and with peculiar characteristics. Methods. A completely anonymous questionnaire was drawn up consisting of 27 multiple choice questions on the theme of violence against women. The questionnaire was proposed to female students of the University of Padua for a period of three months in the academic year 2024/2025. Results. A total of 1870 questionnaires were collected, of which 1861 were correctly completed and eligible for analysis. Most of the participants are aged 18-24 years. A total of 14.3% declared to have ever been forced to sexual acts, 49.4% of have been afraid of a close person close - in 94.2% of cases, a man -, 61% to have suffered humiliation, the perpetrator of which was a man in 82.3% of cases. Conclusions. The results of the study highlight a concerning prevalence of violence against women, including incidents that occurred during adolescence, mostly perpetrated by men. The results also confirm the existence of a significant hidden dimension of the problem, underscoring the necessity to address this issue and develop effective prevention strategies.
Introduzione.
