Delta virus infection (HDV), a satellite pathogen of hepatitis B virus (HBV), represents one of the most severe forms of chronic viral hepatitis, often progressing rapidly to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Despite its clinical significance, HDV remains underdiagnosed, even in settings with high HBV prevalence. This study aims to provide an update on the status of virological screening for HDV and the therapeutic approaches adopted in selected centers in the Veneto region during the period 2023–2025. The study highlights the importance of continuously updating diagnostic and therapeutic pathways and offers practical recommendations for a more effective regional management of HDV infection.

Abstract
Delta virus infection (HDV), a satellite pathogen of hepatitis B virus (HBV), represents one of the most severe forms of chronic viral hepatitis, often progressing rapidly to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Despite its clinical significance, HDV remains underdiagnosed, even in settings with high HBV prevalence. This study aims to provide an update on the status of virological screening for HDV and the therapeutic approaches adopted in selected centers in the Veneto region during the period 2023–2025. The study highlights the importance of continuously updating diagnostic and therapeutic pathways and offers practical recommendations for a more effective regional management of HDV infection.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
