The following thesis elaborates on the complex relations between Saudi Arabia, an Islamist state led by a Wahhabi monarchy, and the United States, a liberal democracy, focusing on the contradictions existing between the two countries despite their evident religious and political divergences. The analysis begins with an examination of the foundations of Saudi Arabia, exploring the origins of Wahhabism and its impact on legitimizing the power of the Saudi family. The second chapter will focus on crises in the bilateral relations, such as the 1973 oil embargo and the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, which marked a crucial moment in the strategic relationship between the two countries. Subsequent chapters will explore recent relations and the future of interactions between Saudi Arabia and the US, including Saudi Arabia's role in the Ukraine conflict and evolving geopolitical influences.
