This thesis focuses on the role that international organizations play in the management of humanitarian crises, with particular attention to the case of the migration crisis in the Mediterranean. In a global context of increasingly frequent and complex emergencies, how these organizations intervene, coordinate and interact with each other is analyzed. A central part is devoted to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), with an in-depth look at its mandate, the principles that guide its action and the collaborations activated with actors such as the United Nations, the European Union, Frontex and NGOs. The intent is to understand, through concrete examples, how these entities address operational and political challenges, seeking to respond to humanitarian needs without losing sight of the context in which they operate.
