This thesis aims to analyze the political and international context of the Republic of Serbia, beginning with a broad historical overview and moving toward a more specific examination of the country’s relations with the European Union over the past decade, a period dominated by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) led by Vučić. The thesis seeks to outline the historical evolution of domestic politics following the democratic transition of the 2000s and Serbia’s European integration on political, economic, and social levels since the formal application for membership. The analysis focuses on the internal political events that have hindered this integration throughout successive governments, with particular attention to the current administration. It also explores popular mobilization campaigns against the SNS in response to various scandals. Furthermore, the thesis examines Serbia’s contradictory foreign policy strategies, the EU accession and enlargement process, and the perception of the European Union within Serbian civil society.
