This thesis traces the history of Outdoor Education in the International and Italian context, with an in-depth study of the Forest Pedagogy and the characteristics that differentiate it in the Outdoor Education’s family. This research is supported by a case study, carried out from September 2024 to March 2025 for a total of 50 hours of observation, at the ‘Educare nel bosco’ project in Rubano (PD), which is based on the principles of Forest Pedagogy and is managed by the Canalescuola Cooperative. The project follows the integral model and therefore involves daily and continuous immersion in the forest, throughout the entire school year, for boys and girls aged 3 to 6. The study specifically investigates how the theoretical principles are applied to everyday life and what benefits are visible in children who experience immersion in nature; families were also involved in an exploratory survey, through the compilation of a questionnaire in digital format. Direct observation of the days of activities in the forest was enriched by semi-structured interviews with the project educators, the collection of photographs and conversations among the children and between the children and the educators involved in the experiences. The results of this empirical research concern the quality of the experience tried out the children participating in the project, the benefits inherent in the physical, psychological and relational dimensions, as well as the skills acquired through self-directed learning and the enhancement of spontaneous play as an opportunity for research, exploration and knowledge of the surrounding world.
