A couple is defined as a mixed couple when homogeneity is lacking in the partnership, and various dimensions come into play, such as political, cultural, or religious factors. This text will focus on the interfaith of mixed marriages, meaning we will consider the dimension of religious diversity within the couple. In Italy, interreligious mixed marriages have been steadily increasing for several years, even though such unions present various religious and cultural challenges. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in this type of marriage in Italy, even compared to marriages where both spouses share the same faith. But in practice, how widespread are these marriages in our country? The first chapter will analyze the subject of study within the religious debate, looking at how different religions and their sacred texts view interreligious marriage among their followers, and whether there are points of agreement and/or conflict between the different religions. Additionally, we will examine the public debate, including the organization Religion for Peace Italy, which works to support interreligious dialogue among the various religions in our national territory. Finally, we will analyze the viewpoints of Italian politicians and parties who have addressed this issue, either directly or indirectly, over the years. The second chapter examines mixed marriages as a social, cultural, and religious phenomenon in a globalized and pluralistic context. We will focus on the research and theories of sociologists such as Mara Tognetti Bordogna, Antonietta Bellisari, and Francesco Cerchiaro, who analyze intercultural and religious dynamics in mixed couples, particularly Christian-Muslim couples in Italy. The research will highlight how these unions can represent both an opportunity for integration and mutual enrichment, as well as a source of conflict regarding the management of religious differences, particularly in the upbringing of children. Finally, the third chapter will analyze the topic through an in-depth analysis of statistics and how a mixed couple in Italy presents itself on social media, offering insight into their daily lives and how they face the challenges of an interreligious couple in Italy.
