This thesis investigates the intersection between perfectionism culture and the mechanisms of violence and abuse within the sporting context. The research traces the historical trajectory of the ideal of perfection, delineating its pervasive influence on modern educational frameworks and athletic environments. Particular attention is given to high-profile cases of abuse within aesthetic sports—such as rhythmic gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, and figure skating—highlighting the systemic factors that enable and perpetuate such practices. Following a detailed outline of the research methodology, the study presents a qualitative analysis of approximately twenty testimonies sourced from the Change the Game platform, centered on the Desio scandal (2022) in Italy. Through thematic coding, the analysis uncovers recurring patterns of abuse and illustrates how the uncompromising pursuit of perfection can normalize behaviors detrimental to athletes' physical and psychological well-being. The findings underscore an urgent imperative for both cultural and institutional reform within the Italian and broader international sports systems.

Abstract
The findings underscore an urgent imperative for both cultural and institutional reform within the Italian and broader international sports systems.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
