In the mixed mountain forest called “Baldassarre”, in Cansiglio (Belluno, IT), the variations in the specific composition and structure of diameters were analyzed. In 2024, on an area of about 2.7 hectares, the diameter of each individual was measured, distinguishing between living and dead plants. For the same area, the surveys conducted in 2015 were also considered. For both inventories, the analyses focused exclusively on living individuals, allowing to calculate for each species: density, mean diameter, basal area, volume, woody biomass, amount of carbon in woody biomass. The data were compared between the two inventories for the different main species, Norway spruce, silver fir and beech. Furthermore, the data of this free-growing forest were compared with those found in the literature for mixed forests of Central Europe, evaluating parameters such as basal area, volume and biomass, to understand how close the analysed forest is to the structure of old-growth forests.
