This thesis aims to thoroughly examine the impact of the digital revolution on early childhood, analyzing how the evolution of digital technologies is influencing the education and the cognitive and emotional development of children. Chapter 1 explores the advancement of digital technologies in the educational field, with particular attention to the transition from desktop computers to touch-based technologies such as tablets and smartphones. It also analyzes the influence these digital media have on child development, examining potential long-term effects. Chapter 2 addresses the direct relationship between children and digital technologies, highlighting both the opportunities and the challenges involved. It delves into children’s interactions with digital media and how these affect their cognitive, emotional, and social development. This section emphasizes the crucial role of parents and educators, seen as mediators in the conscious use of technology by children, and how they can guide its safe and constructive use. Chapter 3 presents the research methodology, which employs a mixed-methods approach to collect both qualitative and quantitative data. It describes the selection of participants, including children, parents, and educators, and outlines the study context. The objective is to understand how different perspectives influence technology use and learning. Chapter 4 focuses on the analysis of the collected data, examining the opinions of parents and educators regarding the use of digital technologies in early childhood. Through focus groups, it analyzes emerging educational practices in the digital age and the effects of digital media exposure on children’s learning and play. The analysis highlights how technology use can both enrich and challenge child development, suggesting possible educational intervention strategies to mitigate risks and enhance benefits. In conclusion, the study offers a critical reflection on the implications of digital technologies for early childhood, outlining recommendations for parents, educators, and policy makers.
