This research, conducted due to the GIVRE Project, examines the phenomenon of Online Gender-Based Violence, through both theoretical and empirical perspectives. Through critical literature review and analysis, the study explores the main types of online gender-based violence; the role of the manosphere as a cultural matrix spreading misogynistic contents and the creation of hostile virtual spaces; as well as the governance practices of digital platforms in online gender-based violence's cases, particularly in 2025, after the political and social changes brought about by Donald Trump's second presidential term. The empirical section, based on qualitative interviews, investigates users’ digital knowledge and practices, differences in vulnerability linked to gender, sexual orientation, and age, and the impact of online violence on digital participation, awareness of the phenomenon, and experiences of self-censorship. Individual and collective resistance strategies, the contribution of activist social media pages, and users’ perceptions of different digital platforms are also examined. Throughout its research path, the thesis aims to offer a comprehensive reflection on the effectiveness of current counter strategies, highlighting how digital culture, platform features, and structural inequalities shape experiences of online gender-based violence, and discussing which defensive strategies are currently adopted and should be further developed.

Abstract
Throughout its research path, the thesis aims to offer a comprehensive reflection on the effectiveness of current counter strategies, highlighting how digital culture, platform features, and structural inequalities shape experiences of online gender-based violence, and discussing which defensive strategies are currently adopted and should be further developed.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
