This thesis analyzes the figure of Nana, the protagonist of Émile Zola's novel, as an example of excess and self-destruction within the context of the Second Empire. Through literary analysis and reference to critical studies, the work highlights the complexity of the character, torn between seduction and downfall, reflecting the contradictions of the society of the time. The study shows how Zola builds a symbolic figure that embodies the moral decay of his era.
La tesi analizza la figura di Nana, protagonista del romanzo di ’Émile Zola, come esempio di eccesso e autodistruzione nel contesto del Secondo Impero. Attraverso un'analisi letteraria del testo e il confronto con studi critici, si evidenzia come Nana sia una figura complessa, tra seduzione e rovina, che riflette le contraddizioni della società dell'epoca. Il lavoro mostra come Zola costruisca un personaggio simbolico, capace di incarnare la decadenza morale del suo tempo.
