This thesis focuses on Sergej Donatovič Dovlatov, one of the most significant Russian authors of the second half of the 20th century, paying special attention to his biography, his literary work, and the translations of the analysed text. The study analyzes one of his most renowned works, the short story collection titled The Suitcase (Чемодан). The main purpose of the thesis is to highlight the challenges that arise when translating Dovlatov’s distinctive style, characterized by essential language, unpretentious irony, and implicit emotional depth. The analysis is developed by making a comparison between the original text and its Serbian and Italian versions. Furthermore, to enrich the analysis, there is a deep focus on how the work was received within the cultural contexts of Russia, Italy and Former Yugoslavia.
La tesi di laurea è incentrata sulla figura di Sergej Donatovič Dovlatov, uno degli autori russi più significativi della seconda metà del XX secolo, con particolare attenzione alla sua biografia, all’opera e alle traduzioni dell’opera prescelta. Il lavoro analizza una delle sue produzioni più celebri, la raccolta di racconti intitolata La valigia (Чемодан). L’obiettivo principale dell’elaborato è mettere in luce le difficoltà che emergono nella traduzione del suo stile distintivo, caratterizzato da un linguaggio essenziale, un’ironia non pretenziosa e una profondità emotiva implicita. L’analisi si sviluppa attraverso il confronto tra il testo originale e le sue versioni in serbo e in italiano. Inoltre, viene approfondita la ricezione dell’opera nei diversi contesti culturali di Russia, Italia ed ex Jugoslavia.
