**ABSTRACT** This paper aims to investigate the concept of anxiety and the role it plays within the tourism context. The first chapter defines the meaning of the word anxiety, a psychological phenomenon (complex and pervasive) that heavily influences the life of every individual who suffers from it. Cognitive, physiological, and behavioral symptoms characterizing the individual are described in this regard. The focus is then placed on the difference between state anxiety and trait anxiety, emphasizing which one is a "temporary" state and which is a "permanent" state, almost being perceived as a trait of normal everyday life. These are presented by highlighting the temporary or chronic nature of this emotional state, with the respective symptoms that are thoroughly examined through the STAI diagnostic tool. Subsequently, different psychological theories—psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, behavioral, and biological—are outlined, which have been able to analyze and interpret the causes and mechanisms that constitute anxiety, and then determine possible solutions to alleviate this chaotic state. In the second part of the paper, the term tourism is briefly examined, developing a short timeline to illustrate how the current conception of tourism has evolved. The term "tourist experience" is then analyzed as a complex process that includes psychological, physical, and emotional aspects before, during, and after the trip. The goal is to understand the difference between the term "tourist experience" and "tourism," both theoretically and practically, specifically by analyzing the individual tourist/visitor. The focus then shifts to the concept of **Odophobia**, a specific type of anxiety that heavily affects the traveler at different moments of the tourist experience. Although the concept of Odophobia is not yet fully accepted in the scientific context, it proves useful in describing the phenomenon of travel anxiety. Specifically, the analysis of the recent pandemic period, which exacerbated pre-existing anxieties and introduced new fears related to health and insecurity, provides a new perspective for understanding how Odophobia can influence the tourist's behavior, complicating the approach to travel. The paper concludes with a study of strategies to cope with travel anxiety, including psychological practices and techniques. The role of technology is examined, showing how it can offer support, although at the same time, it amplifies perceived stress. Additionally, the experience economy is discussed, emphasizing how it often highlights the central value of authenticity. Finally, the importance of creating sustainable and conscious tourism is reflected upon, aiming to respond to the emotional needs of travelers. This goal promotes unique experiences that reduce feelings of alienation and foster connections with local cultures. Ultimately, this not only supports local communities but also encourages psychological well-being by offering travelers a connection with themselves and others, turning travel into an opportunity for personal growth and emotional development.
