La forza delle migrazioni: un'analisi dei Saldi Migratori per età a Costabissara (VI), 1951-2021

The aim of this thesis is to analyze age- and sex-specific net migration figures in Costabissara, a municipality in the Vicenza hinterland, between 1951 and 2021, a period marked by a demographic dynamic strongly influenced by internal migration. The first part is theoretical in nature and focuses on the evolution and importance of the census as a statistical tool for population analysis, highlighting its relevance for this project. The study also examines census records, particularly the most recent ones conducted in paper format. This section concludes with an overview of the historical context of the Veneto region and a general outline of the demographic characteristics of Costabissara. The second part is methodological, dealing with data processing. It begins by describing the structure of the raw data and the process that led from data collection to the construction of age-specific net migration figures. This includes a comparison between the theoretical population, affected solely by mortality and the actual population. Finally, the last section is interpretative. It presents the results of the data analysis and offers some interpretative hypotheses, also in relation to national trends.

Lo scopo di questa tesi è analizzare i saldi migratori per età e sesso di Costabissara, comune dell'hinterland Vicenza, tra il 1951 e il 2021, periodo caratterizzato da una dinamica demografica fortemente influenzata dalle migrazioni interne. La prima parte è di carattere teorico, e riguarda l'evoluzione e l'importanza del censimento, come strumento statistico per l'analisi della popolazione e della sua rilevanza per questo progetto. Verranno anche analizzati gli atti dei censimenti, soprattutto degli ultimi eseguiti in forma cartacea. Si passa poi a un'analisi del periodo storico Veneto e a delineare in generale la demografia di Costabissara. La seconda parte è di carattere metodologico, in quanto riguarda il trattamento dei dati, descrivendo inizialmente la forma dei dati grezzi e descrivendo il percorso che ha portato dalla loro raccolta alla costruzione dei saldi migratori per età, passando attraverso il confronto tra popolazione teorica – influenzata unicamente dalla mortalità – e popolazione effettiva. Infine, l'ultima sezione è di tipo interpretativo. Vengono presentati i risultati dell'analisi dei dati e, offrendo alcune ipotesi interpretative, anche in relazione all'andamento nazionale.
