The thesis describes the work of collecting the samples to be analyzed - graphitic garnet schists - in the area of the Glockner Nappe (Mules, Eastern Alps). After a qualitative observation of the thin sections and the choice of two particularly suitable samples, petrographic observations were carried out with the optical and electronic microscope. The garnets were also observed in Polychromatic Polarization, in order to be able to study their low birefringence. It was therefore possible to characterize the typical optical anisotropy of these minerals, often characterized by sectoral twinning.

Abstract
The thesis describes the work of collecting the samples to be analyzed - graphitic garnet schists - in the area of the Glockner Nappe (Mules, Eastern Alps). After a qualitative observation of the thin sections and the choice of two particularly suitable samples, petrographic observations were carried out with the optical and electronic microscope. The garnets were also observed in Polychromatic Polarization, in order to be able to study their low birefringence. It was therefore possible to characterize the typical optical anisotropy of these minerals, often characterized by sectoral twinning.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
