The study aims to understand the long term effects of past institutions on societies that adopted them, analyzing their factors of persistence and change, how their functioning can influence the development of the communities they govern, and how the individuals that are part of those communities mutually influence the institutions.

Lo studio si pone il problema di comprendere gli effetti di lungo periodo delle istituzioni passate sulle società che le adottarono, analizzandone i fattori di persistenza e cambiamento, come il loro funzionamento possa influenzare lo sviluppo delle comunità che governano e come gli individui che compongono quelle comunità influenzino reciprocamente le istituzioni.
