The thesis aims to analyse the importance of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), with a particular focus on the Italian context and the luxury sector, to assess its strategic implications in terms of business growth and the development of the national industrial fabric. The objective is to understand how the integration of an Italian company into a large international conglomerate can affect its economic and financial performance, competitiveness, and commercial expansion. The analysis is based on data drawn from consolidated financial statements, official reports, and industry sources. The introduction explores the evolution of global FDI flows over the first two decades of the 21st century, highlighting the main economic and geographical dynamics that influence their international distribution. The first chapter focuses on Italy, analysing the main investing countries, the destination areas of investment, and the key strengths that make the national economic system attractive to foreign capital. The following chapter examines in greater depth the Italian sectors that are the main recipients of FDI, with particular attention to the luxury segment, a symbol of Made in Italy and a driver of growth in the global industrial landscape, confirming its position as one of the most appealing sectors for foreign investors. Within this framework, a case study is presented on the Italian leather goods company Bottega Veneta S.r.l., a luxury brand originating from the Veneto region, which currently occupies a niche position both nationally and internationally. Through an economic and financial analysis, the study highlights the positive effects resulting from the acquisition by the French group Kering S.A., in terms of revenue growth, expansion of the retail network, and the strategic repositioning of the brand within the global luxury market, contributing to its growth and international recognition. The thesis concludes with a critical reflection on the opportunities and challenges that FDI presents for the economic and competitive development of the Italian entrepreneurial system.
