This thesis analyzes the impact of subsidized financing for research and development (R&D) on SMEs' access to external capital. The first chapter explores the role of innovation in the economic growth process, delving into the theories of Romer and Aghion and Howitt. The second chapter investigates the causes of insufficient R&D investment, identifying knowledge spillovers and information asymmetries as the main ones. The third chapter examines how government subsidies in R&D affect SMEs' access to external credit. The analysis proposes reflections on a possible strengthening of R&D support policies, generating positive effects on innovation and economic development.
