The thesis examines the relationship between the Second Industrial Revolution and urbanisation, seeking to understand how the urban fabric was affected during the Twentieth century, leading to the creation of new spatial and economic configurations. The first part of the Thesis will analyse the English context, cradle of the Industrial Revolution, where rapid changes radically transformed the land and the cities, with particular reference to Manchester and Ebenezer Howard's utopian Garden Cities. Afterwards the Italian context will be discussed, specifically, the ideal worker’s village of Crespi d'Adda and the city of Ivrea and how the entrepreneurial initiative has in both cases played a fundamental role in urban development. Lastly, an analysis between the different models will be proposed, highlighting the differences between the structures examined and especially the consequences of the Industrial Revolution in the development of cities.

Abstract
Lastly, an analysis between the different models will be proposed, highlighting the differences between the structures examined and especially the consequences of the Industrial Revolution in the development of cities.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
