This thesis explores the potential of the RISC-V architecture in embedded systems, comparing it with the proprietary ARM family architectures. The analysis combines both theoretical and practical aspects, including the study of the open-source Instruction Set Architecture, a comparison with ARM in terms of flexibility, cost, performance, and software support, as well as the development of real-world applications on both hardware targets. The European context is also examined, assessing the political and technical motivations behind the adoption of RISC-V. The goal is to provide a comprehensive and quantitative evaluation of the advantages and challenges associated with adopting RISC-V in the embedded domain.

Abstract
This thesis explores the potential of the RISC-V architecture in embedded systems, comparing it with the proprietary ARM family architectures. The analysis combines both theoretical and practical aspects, including the study of the open-source Instruction Set Architecture, a comparison with ARM in terms of flexibility, cost, performance, and software support, as well as the development of real-world applications on both hardware targets. The European context is also examined, assessing the political and technical motivations behind the adoption of RISC-V. The goal is to provide a comprehensive and quantitative evaluation of the advantages and challenges associated with adopting RISC-V in the embedded domain.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
