The present work begins with an introduction to the Finite Element Method, illustrated through two preliminary examples of FEM analysis conducted using SolidWorks Simulation: a planar frame and a perforated plate. Subsequently, the welded joints under investigation are described, along with the methodologies adopted for the fatigue testing. Based on the test results, the fatigue life of the component is evaluated using the nominal stress approach in accordance with IIW recommendations, and, finally, through the Effective Notch Stress approach, supported by a corresponding finite element analysis.

Abstract
The present work begins with an introduction to the Finite Element Method, illustrated through two preliminary examples of FEM analysis conducted using SolidWorks Simulation: a planar frame and a perforated plate. Subsequently, the welded joints under investigation are described, along with the methodologies adopted for the fatigue testing. Based on the test results, the fatigue life of the component is evaluated using the nominal stress approach in accordance with IIW recommendations, and, finally, through the Effective Notch Stress approach, supported by a corresponding finite element analysis.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
