Through the presentation of a sample translation of Nicholasa Mohr’s short story The English Lesson, this thesis examines the strategies and challenges involved in translating minority voices and representing cultural identity across different languages. It firstly provides an outline of the principal developments in Translation Studies, with particular attention to the ever-evolving role of the translator as a mediator of cultural representation. The study then explores the background and literary production of Nicholasa Mohr, situating her work within the broader context of Nuyorican literature and themes of language, identity, and migration. Finally, the thesis presents a sample translation of Mohr’s short story The English Lesson, thus offering a practical application of the theoretical concepts previously discussed.
