The thesis aims to examine the main versions of the myth of Meleager handed down by archaic and classical sources, highlighting the differences and the elements of innovation that can be identified. After a general overview of this hero and the various events concerning him, based on the text of Apollodorus’ Library, the thesis will procede with a close analysis of three selected texts, each representative of a different literary genre: Homer, Iliad IX 524–605; Bacchylides, Epinician V; and Euripides, Meleager. Nevertheless, further considerations will also be devoted to other representatives of archaic epic and lyric poetry, as well as tragedy, in order to deepen the comparison between sources and observe the developments of this mythological tradition in a better way.

Abstract
The thesis aims to examine the main versions of the myth of Meleager handed down by archaic and classical sources, highlighting the differences and the elements of innovation that can be identified. After a general overview of this hero and the various events concerning him, based on the text of Apollodorus’ Library, the thesis will procede with a close analysis of three selected texts, each representative of a different literary genre: Homer, Iliad IX 524–605; Bacchylides, Epinician V; and Euripides, Meleager. Nevertheless, further considerations will also be devoted to other representatives of archaic epic and lyric poetry, as well as tragedy, in order to deepen the comparison between sources and observe the developments of this mythological tradition in a better way.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
