This thesis explores the international reception and critical fortune of Umberto Saba's works, focusing in particular on translations into foreign languages. Through a comparative analysis of selected translations—especially in Spanish and French —the study investigates how Saba's poetic and prose texts have been received, interpreted, and adapted in different cultural contexts. Special attention is given to the role of translators in conveying Saba's poetic universe, highlighting stylistic choices and challenges in linguistic rendering. The thesis also examines Saba’s presence in literary anthologies and his inclusion in academic and publishing circuits abroad. Findings show that, although Saba’s international diffusion was initially limited compared to other Italian writers of the 20th century, some of his works gained increasing interest—particularly in the postwar period—thanks to accurate translations and the efforts of cultural mediators. The thesis concludes with a reflection on the value of translation as a tool for literary canonization and as a key to understanding the universality of Saba’s poetic message.
