The first part of this thesis aims to provide an in-depth study of the policies implemented by museums in Italy and worldwide regarding accessibility to facilities and content for people with physical and motor disabilities. The focus will be on documents such as the Smithsonian Institution's Guidelines, which will be compared with the actual policies implemented by some of the major international museums. Subsequently, examples of positive policies and activities currently in practice and considered beneficial within social policies will be presented. Opinions and experiences of people with various disabilities will be reported, and based on these, a fully accessible itinerary for a hypothetical exhibition on a work by Canaletto will be proposed.
