Femicide is a problem that affects women and society. According to official statistics, the number of these crimes in Chile has remained constant over the last decade. However, there is an increase in the number of attempted femicides. Considering the impact that the media have on people’s comprehension and perception of reality, it seems relevant to understand how the media are presenting these violent attacks. This study investigated the media coverage of femicides in Chile over the last 13 years, to observe which were the main topics, the portrayal of victims and perpetrators, and the variations through time. Using qualitative and quantitative methods, this thesis analyzed more than 2,000 articles published in digital media between 2012 and 2024, observing the frequency of keywords and the most relevant terms to describe this extreme violence, comparing the media and periods. The results contribute to understanding how the digital outlets are framing the perception of this gender-based violence.
