This paper focuses on the study of children and their games and toys in a geographical area encompassing the Near East and Egypt, spanning from the Paleolithic to the Iron Age. After an overview of childhood archaeology, its challenges, and the importance of this discipline, the work highlights the role of play in the investigation of prehistoric children. It then proceeds with an analysis of toys and games, categorized according to their potential purposes: physical, strategic, educational, and recreational development. The study is carried out through the review and comparison of bibliographic material, with the aim of demonstrating the importance of studying children in archaeology to achieve a more comprehensive understanding of past societies.
Il seguente elaborato si occupa dello studio dei bambini e dei loro giochi e giocattoli, in un’area che comprende Vicino Oriente ed Egitto, in un arco di tempo che va dal paleolitico all’età del ferro. Dopo un excursus sull’archeologia infantile, le sue problematiche e l’importanza di questa disciplina, viene illustrata l’importanza del gioco nell’indagine dei bambini preistorici, per poi proseguire con l’analisi dei giocattoli e dei giochi, suddivisi in base allo scopo che potevano avere: sviluppo fisico, strategico, educativo e ludico. Lo studio è condotto attraverso la lettura e la comparazione di materiale bibliografico; lo scopo è dimostrare l’importanza dello studio dei bambini in archeologia per una più completa comprensione della società.
