This thesis analyzes the role of cosmetics in the Roman world, examining its social and cultural implications within women's daily life. Through literary sources and a detailed analysis of archaeological evidence, we try to outline the daily gestures related to the personal care of Roman women, highlighting the importance that such practices had in their self-determination in this historical context. To complete the theoretical investigation, the thesis includes a realistic reproduction of the possible makeup of a Roman matron, with the aim of concretely understanding the techniques and gestures related to the application of makeup in ancient Rome.
