IL SURREALISMO E LA MODA: LA COLLABORAZIONE TRA ELSA SCHIAPARELLI E SALVADOR DALÍ

.The title of this thesis is “Surrealism and Fashion: the Collaboration between Elsa Schiaparelli and Salvador Dalí”, as it aims to demonstrate how art and fashion, although seemingly disconnected, actually influence one another. These two disciplines represent the respective fields of Elsa Schiaparelli and Salvador Dalí, two emblematic figures who shaped the cultural landscape of the 1930s. The thesis begins its reflection on art and fashion by examining the artistic and cultural context of Surrealism, its precursors, and its leading exponents. It then moves on to an analysis of the creative thinking and biographies of Elsa Schiaparelli and Salvador Dalí, and of the relationship between them, leading to the core of the work: the “Surrealist Collection”. This chapter explores the most iconic creations that emerged from the collaboration between the fashion designer and the painter, such as the Lobster Dress, the Shoe Hat, and the Skeleton and Tear Dresses. Finally, the thesis concludes with an analysis of the impact that the Schiaparelli-Dalí duo and their creations had on both society and the media in the 1930s, an influence that remains deeply relevant even today.

.Il titolo della tesi è “Il Surrealismo e la moda: la collaborazione tra Elsa Schiaparelli e Salvador Dalí”, perché si vuole dimostrare come l’arte e la moda, apparentemente sconnesse, in realtà si influenzano l’una con l’altra. Queste due discipline rappresentano il settore di appartenenza di Elsa Schiaparelli e Salvador Dalí: due figure emblematiche che segnano il contesto degli anni Trenta del Novecento. La tesi inizia questa riflessione su arte e moda partendo dal contesto artistico e culturale del Surrealismo, dei suoi precursori e maggiori esponenti. Successivamente, attraverso l’analisi del pensiero creativo e della biografia di Elsa Schiaparelli e Salvador Dalí e del loro legame, si arriva poi al nucleo centrale dell’elaborato ovvero la “Collezione surrealista”. In questo capitolo vengono analizzate le creazioni più iconiche frutto del legame tra la stilista ed il pittore come l’abito Aragosta, il Cappello-scarpa ed i vestiti Scheletro e Lacrima. Infine, l’elaborato si conclude con l’impatto che il duo Schiaparelli-Dalí e le loro opere hanno avuto a livello sociale e mediatico negli anni Trenta del Novecento fino ad arrivare ad oggi.
